Silhouette Defeature was introduced in SOLIDWORKS 2019 and it quickly became a favorite tool used to easily create simplified versions of your components. This offers an easy way to get some performance improvements or protect your intellectual properties. In SOLIDWORKS 2021, this powerful tool got even better by extending its capabilities to now include the option to save the simplified version as a configuration instead of a separate file. Let’s take a look!
Creating a New Configuration
After creating the simplified version, you simply check the option to create a new configuration. This improvement is twofold; one, you can easily manage your files and two, it offers a quick way to include your simplified version in your models. This is an improvement that means it is easier than ever to work with high-performance, simplified versions of your models. As you can see, this new configuration will contain only the simplified version of your model.
This is one of the most exciting enhancements of SOLIDWORKS 2021. Silhouette Defeature gives you the opportunity to save your project to a new file where the details are replaced by dumb solids (solids without feature definition or history) enabling you to share your files without divulging design details. Now with SOLIDWORKS 2021 enhancements, Silhouette Defeature just got a lot easier to use.
