We’d all agree that there is an inherent complexity in trying to convey a 3D concept in 2D space and have seen that it’s possible for some information to get lost in translation while making this change. To help deal with this complexity there are powerful new productivity enhancements that make documenting your designs even faster in SOLIDWORKS 2019.
What is Removed Section View?
SOLIDWORKS 2019 introduces a brand-new view type available in 2D drawings. It’s called the remove section view and it’s an extremely useful tool to help clearly convey your design intent in 2D space. The removed section view got its name to conform to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) guidelines. So, what is it? The removed section view is a zero-thickness slice through the model showing only cut edges and hatching perpendicular to the cutting line. That’s different than the traditional section view, which is projected parallel to the cutting line.

You can now create a slice section through the model at any location using the new removed section view command. It’s easy, just select two opposed model edges and a view is created perpendicular to the section line, eliminating the need to create any additional construction geometry. In just a few clicks you can create a slice of your model showing off the cross-section at any point. Now in SOLIDWORKS 2019, conveying the complexities of your design clearly and concisely couldn’t be easier with the new removed section view.
