Tech Tip: Springs Made Easy In SOLIDWORKS

By Paul Ludwick on

Most users use a helix and sweep to create a spring, then experience frustration when trying to modify. In this blog, you will learn a simple way to create the spring and modify it very easily in SOLIDWORKS.

The first thing you need to do is create two sketches similar to the ones below. In this example, we are creating a 3” diameter spring with eight revolutions.  The initial compression will be 6”.

Next, we will use the Sweep Feature with the below settings.  With the preview on, we have a perfectly formed spring.

If the compression needs to change to 3”, a simple edit of the line length will achieve this.

Remember this technique the next time you need to create a spring.
