Share with 3DDrive Outside Your Organization

By Ray Morrogh on

As designers and engineers, it’s not uncommon to have to share files to outside vendors or machine shops to fabricate designs. What does that look like when you are on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform?

The 3DDrive app, part of the Collaborative Business Innovator role, allows you to share folders and files to customers, contractors, and coworkers, as well as combine your other external cloud storage platforms for use with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. It should be noted that in order to view the content, they will need to create a 3DEXPERIENCE Passport, which is free.

To share with 3DDrive, simply right click the folder or file you want to share, select view information, and in the information tab, select “Share with External”. Activating the external sharing link will allow you to send the file(s) to anyone to give them view only access. It should be noted that anyone means anyone with the link, so if you need to exercise more control over who views your content, turn on restrict access to specific users. This will only allow those with an account linked to the emails entered, limited to 50, to view the content being shared. This link will exist for 30 days from its creation.

If you’ll be collaborating with someone for an extended time period, it may be best to add them to your tenant and give them viewer privileges to relevant files. When you do this, you have the option to assign a license, but you don’t have to if you’d prefer they have their own Collaborative Business Innovator role. This role is part of the 3DEXPERIENCE Base Package, and you can learn more about all the roles included in that package here.
