MakerBot has announced an enhanced version of their new MakerBot Method 3D printing platform, the Method X. This manufacturing workstation builds on the existing Method performance printer framework, keeping all the key features and benefits of the standard model, and expands the material options available giving the Method X the capability to create manufacturing tools and end-use production parts.
Comparing Printers: Method versus Method X
Developed using industry-leading Stratasys technology and patents, the Method platform makes industrial 3D printing technologies accessible to individual designers and engineers. The addition of the Method X takes that a step further with the ability to print ABS plastics in addition to all other Method materials (including PLA and PETG).

- Dual performance extruders
- Dimensional accuracy up to 0.2mm

Enhancements to the Method X:
- Circulating heated chamber up to 100°C
- Added ability to print production-grade ABS plastic

The Method X is capable of withstanding temperatures 15°C higher than other modified desktop 3D printer ABS material formulations. This combination of technologies, including the heated chamber and use of Stratasys engineered ABS plastics, results in better Z-layer bonding which provides higher strength and surface finish without warping and curling.
Opening the Method platform to ABS material enables users to start producing the models for a variety of additional applications:
- Real ABS end-use parts at a fraction of traditional manufacturing costs
- Dimensionally accurate jigs, fixtures and end-effectors that fit seamlessly with existing components
- Prototyping with production-grade ABS to achieve part properties close to injection
molded parts
