When it comes to working with SOLIDWORKS®, collaboration is key. As a designer or an engineer you know how important it is to be able to share your work with others. Whether it be a consultant, vendor, or even a fellow colleague, being able to share your designs is necessary. In this Video Tech Tip, we look at using Large Design Review in SOLIDWORKS.
Unfortunately, as most experienced users know, this does not always go so well. It’s not as easy as just sharing the assembly file. If you don’t have all the parts that make up an assembly, the assembly file won’t load up the geometry. One of the easiest ways to get around this is to share an assembly through the pack and go feature. Think of this as an export process. The Pack and go command will find all the necessary parts for what you want to share, and zip them all up in a folder—making sharing the assembly a breeze.
But if you don’t have all the files you still can open up and view an assembly, and that’s what this week’s video tech tip is all about. With this tip you can open up an assembly file without its parts using large design review. It works by loading the graphics data of the assembly. This means you can’t make edits to the model, but if you’re just collaborating with someone, viewing and measuring might be all they need to do.
