ULTEM is a thermoplastic material that is known for its high strength and heat-resistant properties. It is used in various industries ranging from aerospace to food production. There are many different types of ULTEM resin including ULTEM 9085 and ULTEM 1010 and each one comes with specific certifications and multiple grade options making it ideal for even the most complex and regulated projects.
What is ULTEM 9085
ULTEM™ 9085 resin is a flame-retardant high-performance thermoplastic. It is primarily used for digital manufacturing and rapid prototyping. The transportation industry considers it ideal due to its high strength-to-weight ratio and its FST (flame, smoke and toxicity) rating. This resin allows design and manufacturing engineers to produce fully functional parts for advanced functional prototypes or end use all while avoiding the cost or lead time of traditional tooling. It also meets difficult test criteria while retaining material traceability that is essential to the aerospace industry. This material comes with multiple certificates to back its capabilities.
What is ULTEM 1010
This material is the Automotive and Aerospace industry’s premier choice for prototyping and creating end-use parts. The unique properties of ULTEM 1010 allow for highest heat resistance, tensile strength and chemical resistance above any other FDM thermoplastic. It also comes in general-purpose grade as well as certified-grade. This means it is ideal for food contact and certain medical applications. The ability to hold up against steam autoclaving and provide multiple-grade options set this material apart.
Printing Technology: FDM
Stratasys Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) 3D printers Technology use production-grade thermoplastics to create parts that are designed to be accurate, easily replicated and stable over time. FDM Thermoplastics offers many familiar materials included ABS, PC and high-performance ULTEM 1010 and ULTEM 9085 to use for 3D printing concept models, prototypes, tools and end-use parts.
FDM technology works with engineering-grade thermoplastics to build strong, long-lasting and dimensionally stable parts with the best accuracy and repeatability of any 3D printing technology. FDM machines make parts with the most commonly used thermoplastics, such as ABS, polycarbonate, a variety of blends, as well as engineered thermoplastics for aerospace, medical, automotive, electronic and other specialty applications.
