How To Create a Chain Component Pattern with Connected Linkages

As you start to add more parts and details to your assemblies, the complexity increases. One of these times saving techniques is patterns. Although this video focuses on the concept of creating a chain component pattern, it is full of many other assembly tips and tricks you’re not going to want to miss.

The chain component pattern is great for simulating things like roller chains, energy chains, and various other power transmission components. Creating a chain component pattern is easy. It requires two basic steps, starting with the seed component. This is the component you will base the pattern off of. For example, this would be one single link of a chain. Next it requires a path sketch. The path sketch is a reference sketch that is to determine the shape and location of the pattern. This can be either an open or closed loop. 

Patterns takes just one instance of a component and creates many copies of it that behave in a particular way based on how you created it. Mirror components, linear component patterns and circular component patterns are just a few examples of the patterning functionality available in SOLIDWORKS. Leveraging the pattern functionality of SOLIDWORKS can dramatically reduce the complexity of your assembly without sacrificing any of the detail. In this video tech tip, we focus on one specific example of a pattern- the chain component pattern.
