Here are some things to consider as you start your new journey.
Do Your Research
As with any prospective career change, you will want to thoroughly research your potential new employer. Not only do you want to make sure they are stable, with a good track record, you also want to know that their company culture and values align with yours. Dig deep and make the effort to learn as much as you can, even if it means reaching out to a current employee. Being in a new place without knowing anyone is difficult enough, doing this little bit of background work could save you the trouble of finding out the hard way that the CEO is a tyrant, there is no potential for growth, or the culture is unwelcoming.
Ask About Relocation Costs
Sometimes job negotiations can be complex and you don’t want to rock the boat. You may feel like you are being greedy if you ask about relocation expenses. The reality is, it doesn’t hurt to ask and the worst that can happen is they say they don’t cover relocation expenses and you move on. Some employers will provide relocation assistance as part of their benefits package, as a specific reimbursement amount or even a signing bonus. If they do offer assistance, make sure to get it in writing and read the fine print. You may find out later on that you are responsible for paying it all back if you leave within a specific period of time, and you need to be aware of it, should you feel like you must leave for any reason.
Begin Building Your Network
Once you have decided to make the move, it will be important to have a safety net of people around you as you get settled. Whether it is an old friend from college or a 3rd cousin, look them up and ask them to dinner. Do you dig theater or gaming? Look up local groups there you can pop in on and meet others that are like-minded. Establishing plans and connective experiences can do a lot to keep the loneliness of a new city at bay and before you know it you will be fully established in your new community.

You are concerned about making a good impression, getting the electricity on and finding your favorite professional outfit amongst a myriad of boxes. Do everything you can to make sure you are only concerned with the big things because you are a rock star and already handled the little ones.
